About Black Women Rest

Black Women Rest is a grassroots wellness nonprofit creating intentional, restorative spaces that center collective rest for our community. Through community-centered gatherings, holistic wellness practices, and shared learning experiences, we support our community in resting deeply, reconnecting to their bodies, and caring for themselves in sustainable ways.

Our work is rooted in a simple but powerful truth: rest is not something you earn — it is a life-sustaining practice. We create spaces where our community can slow down, release harmful narratives around productivity and strength, and build practical tools for long-term well-being.

What We Do

We curate culturally affirming experiences that integrate:

  • Intentional Rest Spaces — gatherings designed for softness, safety, and restoration

  • Holistic Wellness Practices — nervous system care, reflection, embodied rest, and gentle movement

  • Education & Shared Learning — workshops and conversations on rest, stress, and sustainable self-care

  • Collective Care — intergenerational community spaces rooted in connection and support

Our offerings include one-day gatherings, overnight retreats, workshops, and educational resources designed to be accessible, reflective, and community-centered.

Why This Work Matters

Black women experience chronic stress, burnout, and health inequities at disproportionate rates due to systemic racism, gender bias, and cultural expectations around strength and endurance. Rest is often framed as optional or indulgent — when in reality, it is essential to health, sustainability, and survival.

Black Women Rest exists in direct response to these realities. We believe rest is a pathway to wellness, liberation, and intergenerational healing.

Mission

Our mission is to create restorative, culturally grounded spaces that support our community in resting deeply, reconnecting to their bodies, and practicing sustainable care in community.

Vision

We envision a world where our community is well-rested, supported, and resourced. A world where rest is normalized, collective care is valued, and wellness is accessible across generations.
