Who We Are
Black Women Rest is a grassroots wellness nonprofit curating intentional, restorative spaces centering collective rest for Black women. Through community-centered gatherings, holistic wellness practices, and shared learning experiences, we support Black women in resting deeply, reconnecting to their bodies, and caring for themselves in sustainable ways.
Our work integrates education, reflection, and embodied practices rooted in cultural affirmation and collective care. We create spaces where Black women can learn together, unlearn harmful narratives around productivity and strength, and build practical tools for rest and well-being.
We exist in response to the chronic stress, burnout, and health inequities Black women disproportionately face. At Black Women Rest, we believe rest is not something you earn, but a life-sustaining practice and a pathway to wellness, sustainability, and liberation for ourselves and future generations.
Our Programs
Steeped in Wellness
An educational herbal wellness series focused on shared learning and practical skill-building. Participants learn how to grow, blend, and use simple herbs while exploring tea blending, tincture making, and holistic approaches to everyday wellness rooted in ancestral knowledge and accessibility.
Collective Unwinds
Monthly, community-led gatherings that center education, conversation, and rest. These workshops offer space for shared learning around wellness topics, nervous system care, and sustainable rest practices while strengthening community connection.
Breathwork & Black Women Narratives
A healing-centered series that weaves breathwork, storytelling, and reflection. This program creates space to examine how chronic stress, generational expectations, and lived experiences live in the body, while offering tools to release, regulate, and reconnect.
Rested Rituals
A 7-day mindfulness fasting experience designed to support Black women in slowing down, resetting, and reconnecting with themselves through intentional practice and community care. Rooted in mindfulness, guided journaling, and gentle fasting, the program includes daily journal prompts and affirmations, a printable workbook, a community group chat for shared reflection and accountability, and three live Zoom circles held over the seven days to ground the experience, build connection, and honor rest and renewal.
Mindfulness Moments
Community-based meditation and mindfulness sessions designed to support nervous system regulation and weekly grounding. These accessible gatherings invite Black women to begin the week with intention, presence, and collective calm.
Resting In Grief
A community-centered virtual series dedicated to holding space for grief in Black women’s lives. This offering creates a soft, supportive environment where participants are invited to slow down, honor their losses, and tend to the many forms of grief—personal, collective, ancestral, and ongoing.
Overnight Rest Experiences
Immersive overnight gatherings designed to offer deep rest and restoration. These experiences include guided rest practices, mindfulness, nourishing meals, reflection, and sister circles—creating space for Black women to slow down, unplug, and be held in collective care.
